It was a close call in the end: BVB had to endure some nervous moments in the last 10 minutes of the game against Augsburg when they saw their 3-0 lead cut to 3-2, prompting Neven Subotic to say “we all deserve a slap for it.”

Neven Subotic: “I’m happy that we won, but it was a close call in the end. In the closing minutes we really didn’t do that well as a team. We dropped the pace, were not committed enough and stopped defending, while Augsburg made the most of their chances. When they scored their second goal, every Augsburg player felt they are still in the game. We all deserve a slap for those last 10 minutes. It would have been close to a disaster had we lost that game. We now have two quiet weeks ahead of us before we take on SC Freiburg.”

Jürgen Klopp: “It’s not a pleasure to travel to Augsburg after a home defeat. We played well and dominated the game. We shut down the spaces well, pressed well, played confident football and scored at the right time. But we could not put the game to bed. We created two great chances and could have scored a fourth. Then we conceded two goals we should not have conceded. However, this is just the beginning of the season. Football is not like riding a bicycle. You don’t forget how to ride a bike, in football you don’t forget things completely, either, but the details need to be practiced over and over again.”

Sebastian Kehl: “We played very, very well until the 70th minute. Overall, we are happy to have bagged the three points and that we responded well to the defeat against Leverkusen. We know we still have to improve a lot, but it was a step in the right direction and a better display than last week. We should have scored four or five against Augsburg. One or two players got some match practice. We are well prepared for the next weeks.”

Marco Reus: “We played very well in the first half, and did exactly what our coach told us to. For some inexplicable reason, we lost focus in the second half and let Augsburg back into the game. If you take your foot off the pedal, you get punished. This is an important lesson for us. I’m happy we won and I was able to help the team. As the second half showed, we still have a lot of work to do.”

Raul Bobadilla (FC Augsburg): “I'm a bit sad and disappointed. Dortmund were much better than us in the first half, but we gave everything in the second, but ultimately it wasn't enough.”
