The Borussia Dortmund website has been rated the best in the UEFA Champions League! For the fourth year in a row, the “Departamento de Internet“ conducted a study of the websites of the participating teams in Europe’s elite competition. BVB’s was ranked top, soaring 28 places since last year.

The game is barely over, the TV highlights have yet to be edited, but the match report - found at bvb.de - is already online. It is the world’s fasted of its kind, and a service that many fans have become fond and accustomed to over the years. But at the same time, the website and its design was no longer meeting user needs, and fans coming from the game or watching it in a pub were beginning to have problems obtaining the extensive information from our website. This all changed in November 2013 when we revamped BVB’s main digital presence by turning it into a responsive design, making the website and its content accessible for both mobile and desktop devices.

The feedback from the users on the new website was very positive, which has also been reflected in the increased use of it, with 1.2 million unique users visiting bvb.de each month. A study by the “Departamento de Internet” has now rated Borussia Dortmund’s official website as the best in Europe.

The study compared all websites of the teams participating in the UEFA Champions League, with the focus on usability. The most important criteria were structure and navigation (15/15), language and writing (7/9), user orientation (9/9) and objective of the website (9/9), with BVB getting a perfect score in almost every category. That said, BVB is not planning to rest on its laurels as David Görges, the club’s Head of New Media, explained: “The website is not at 100 percent yet. Especially in the areas of statistics and networking of content, there’s still room for improvement. But we are of course very pleased that we have been ranked top and use this as a motivation for upcoming digital projects.” A soon-to-be-launched project: BVB will give their ticketing website a new design and turn it into a completely responsive one.

In the years ahead, Borussia Dortmund will continue to work hard behind the scenes in their quest for the perfect score…
