The fixtures are now coming thick and fast for Borussia Dortmund, whose next chance to pick up three points comes on Tuesday when they travel to Wolfsburg for Matchday 4 the Bundesliga season. The domestic campaign is now gathering pace following a slow start due to the international break after Matchday 1.

"The upcoming matches will give us a better idea of how competitive we are," said Thomas Tuchel in the run-up to the triple-header against Wolfsburg on Tuesday (kick-off 20:00 CET), at home to Sportclub Freiburg on Friday and against Real Madrid the following Tuesday.

The team has boosted its self-belief by picking up 6-0 victories against Warsaw and Darmstadt – and Tuchel has no intention of dampening their spirits. He spoke of "two all-round successful performances" and said: "We have made the most out of the favourites' tag. We don't want to play that down." Expressing his objectives for Wolfsburg, he said: "We want to show courage, maintain our tempo and keep up our desire to score and defend."

All Black and Yellows know that they are facing a different calibre of opponent to Warsaw and Darmstadt when they travel to Wolfsburg on Tuesday. Referring to his own experiences, Tuchel said: "I've found previous matches in Wolfsburg to be tough" because VfL "show a real attacking strength, particularly in home games". Tuchel warned: "There are a lot of attacks down the wings to deal with. We will be tested on a completely different level. But we feel ready for the difficult trip to Wolfsburg."
