After drawing 1-1 against FC Augsburg, the BVB players were downcast. "It is a bitter feeling not to have taken all three points once again", said Mario Götze, for instance. The initial reactions.
Julian Weigl: "Only in the second half did we begin to play as we had envisioned. We had chances to win the game during the second half. We wanted to give the fans a nice Christmas present in the form of a win. It didn't turn out that way. For that reason, I am disappointed."
Mario Götze: "It is a bitter feeling not to have taken all three points once again, right now, just before the winter break and at home. We cannot be satisfied with how things stand in the Bundesliga. It is really bitter. The break will do us good given the current situation."
Marcel Schmelzer: "We are just disappointed to end the first half of the season without having collected three points. It is doubly bitter due to the fact we didn't get a penalty. Our form has been up and down so far this season. But you have to show a little understanding since we have had to deal with many injuries across the first half of the campaign. Taking control of games is not something that comes automatically. We know we want to go on the attack again in the second half of the season.
Thomas Tuchel: "We began very well. The reasons for the draw were evident between the 15' and 45' minute. We totally lost the plot during this phase of the game. It's beyond me why this happened. There were some wildly misplaced passes from us. We were not able to maintain the pressure that got us the deserved equaliser until the end of the game."
Manuel Baum (FC Augsburg Trainer): "We are proud to be taking a point back home with us. We prevented Dortmund from heaping too much pressure on us. I am very, very satisfied with our first half performance. After that our legs and heads began to go. Everybody's performances and willingness to run were phenomenal."
Stefan Reuter (FC Augsburg Manager): "We are very satisfied. My compliments to the team. It was a game that involved a lot of intensive running, but the boys carried that out perfectly. We had a lot of luck in many situations during the second half." (gh)
