Borussia Dortmund’s midfielder Julian Weigl suffered a fractured ankle in the draw against FC Augsburg and will spend a significant amount of time on the sidelines as a result.

The 21-year-old midfielder, who has played 60 out of 67 matches in the Bundesliga since his debut in August 2015, twisted his foot awkwardly as it was caught in the turf in a midfield tussle with an opponent. “He immediately felt that something has cracked, something bad, and that’s what happened” confirmed Manager Thomas Tuchel. “The initial diagnosis is an ankle fracture and a month out of action”.

Weigl posted a picture of himself and his bandaged leg on the return flight with the message; “I’m staying positive, just like my tattoo says! Thank you all for the messages. I will give my all to make a speedy recovery”. (br)
