BVB Foundation promotes tolerance project of the "Social Centre Dortmund"
The association "Social Centre Dortmund" supports families in the north of Dortmund in all circumstances. For the period from January to July 2019, the employees set up an intercultural group project for the children they care for, which in particular deals with tolerance. The BVB Foundation „leuchte auf“ (light up) made the project possible with a donation of 5,000 euros.
The association "Social Centre Dortmund" supports families in the north of Dortmund in all circumstances. For the period from January to July 2019, the employees set up an intercultural group project for the children they care for, which in particular deals with tolerance. The BVB Foundation „leuchte auf“(light up) made the project possible with a donation of 5,000 euros.
During the project, children of diverse backgrounds deal with cultures and religions. In doing so, the educational supervisors discuss similarities and peculiarities and, for example, explain different traditions, rules and celebrations to the children. Over the course of the multi-month project period, the children then get to know different religions - including Christian, Christian Orthodox, Jewish and Muslim beliefs. The aim of the project is to increase mutual acceptance among the eight to twelve-year-old children, who grow up in families with different ideologies and ways of life, and to promote respectful interaction with one another.
For the "Social Centre Dortmund" it was clear from the outset that the project would be designed without any denominational rating, but rather from the ground up. As a result, it was possible to inspire children and families of different faiths for the offer, which also includes several excursions. For example, the children and parents of the project group enjoyed visits to the "U" in Dortmund and the city library.
A visit to the Catholic Trinity Church in the immediate vicinity of Borsigplatz, the birthplace of BVB, was on the program, as well as additional visits to a mosque and synagogue. Community representative Karsten Haug led the group through the entire building and told the visitors that they were at a very special and, for BVB, an historic place.
Back in 1909, the responsible Kaplan considered football too rough a sport and therefore banned the community’s youth groups from playing the game. However, they did not accept this ban and instead founded the "Football club Borussia 09 Dortmund". To their great astonishment, the enthusiastic BVB project group learned that the Trinity Church is also the founding church of BVB. Even today, this historic connection between Borussia Dortmund and the church is maintained with regular BVB church services.
