BVB foundation funds family leisure time
The holiday period is the nicest time of the year. What is even nicer, is the time for parents and children to go on their holidays together, far away from home. "Mobile e.V." from Dortmund has organised family leisure time for disabled parents, who spent a few relaxing days with their children in East Frisia.
A total of seven families from Dortmund started their journey to the North Sea coast in East Frisia with support workers from "Mobile - Selbstbestimmtes Leben Behinderter e.V" (Self-Determined Life for the Disabled). During the five-day leisure trip, the 31 participants had the opportunity to make new memories, including a visit to a seal aquarium and a museum tour. In addition to interacting socially as an entire family, it was just as important for the holiday trip organisers, that those travelling could spend a relaxed time with their family.
Due to some of the participants' disabilities, only a few were able to go on holiday, outside of their usual environment, without the presence of support workers. This is why the offer from "Mobile e.V." opens up new holiday possibilities, making it possible for two children to enjoy a holiday with their parents, despite not living together as a family in everyday life. It was also something special for the association employees to experience the families in a situation far away from the support they provide in everyday life, which is where "Mobile e.V." is usually together with the families. The goal is always to help disabled people to lead a self-determined and autonomous life.
The family leisure time in East Frisia made "leuchte auf" (light up) possible with donations adding up to €5,100.
