Special Olympics invited as part of the "European Football Week"
As part of the "European Football Week" the BVB Evonik Soccer School last week welcomed over 30 football-mad athletes from Special Olympics NRW e.V. (SO) - the world's largest sports movement for people with mental and multiple disabilities - to take part in intensive and high-adrenaline football training.
As a cooperation partner of our BVB foundation "light up", the two organisations have been working together since the 2015/16 season to successfully implement the project "Einlaufkinder mit Behinderung" (Player mascots with disabilities).
The "European Football Week" takes place each year in cooperation between Special Olympics and UEFA. In Germany in particular, the project is becoming increasingly popular. Various licensed clubs have been participating in the project for many years and offer around 1,000 SO athletes various footballing activities.
On the site of the BVB Evonik Soccer School the athletes experienced a completely Black and Yellow Day. As well as receiving training equipment and taking part in a training session with the BVB coaches, they subsequently went on the hunt for the first-team in the world's most beautiful stadium, SIGNAL IDUNA PARK. An experience that none of the participants will forget quickly.
