Coronavirus continues to pose major challenges to society. Especially at the beginning of the pandemic, inpatient care facilities in particular were confronted with the often unsolvable problem of reconciling the changing quarantine regulations during the "lockdown" period with the social contacts that are still necessary for the people being looked after. During this period, "leuchte auf" has helped the Lebenshilfe charity in Waltrop allow the people they are caring for to receive visits by families and friends by renting protective containers.
Due to the high risk of infection, it was no longer possible, especially in spring 2020, for people living in care facilities to receive visitors. To protect the residents with mental disabilities in particular, many of whom are in Coronavirus high-risk groups, Lebenshilfe in Waltrop also had to enforce strict quarantine measures.
In order to fulfil the important basic need to meet with family members and friends despite the restrictions on contact, the Waltrop facility decided to rent a visitation container with special protective measures. The containers consist of two independently ventilated rooms, which are completely separated from each other by a plexiglass wall and can be entered from both sides. Thus, it was possible for Lebenshilfe to continue to agree visit dates without the risk of infection and to counteract the increasing isolation of the residents. Especially in the new and uncertain pandemic situation, the protective containers helped to avoid additional mental stress and psychological consequences for the people being cared for as well as possible.
"leuchte auf" supported the project of the Waltrop Lebenshilfe facility with a donation of €6,200 and thus made it possible to rent the special visitation container for a period of two months. The funding was provided as part of the "Covid19 donation campaign" launched by the BVB Foundation in mid-March, in particular to support the institutions whose work is severely impaired and hampered by the pandemic.
