The Black & Yellows are set to follow up Monday's charity match in Zwickau with another appearance for a good cause: Borussia Dortmund will attend a charity tournament in support of Westfalia Herne on Thursday 17 May, which will also be attended by DSC Wanne-Eickel.

The revenue from the tournament, during which each team will face each other for one half at the Sportpark Eickel ("Mondpalastarena"), will mostly go to SC Westfalia, although some of the proceeds will go to DSC.

Due to the delays in the reconstruction of the "Schloss Strünkede" stadium caused by the weather, Westfalia lost income from tickets and sponsor money.

"We're looking forward to this charity tournament. For us it was a no-brainer to help out SC Westfalia Herne in this difficult situation. This solidarity has a special significance for us in the farewell year of the mining sector," explained Hans-Joachim Watzke.

"This is true solidarity in the Ruhr region. Westphalia, BVB and DSC are all pulling in one direction. Football fans are the winners," said Lord Mayor Dr. Frank Dudda. The stadium will be open from 17:00 CET; tickets are not yet available.

Almost 71 years to the day before this charity tournament, on 18 May 1947, Borussia Dortmund beat FC Schalke 04 3-2 at the Schloss Strünkede stadium in Herne to secure the Westphalian Championship for the first time in the club's history. (br)
