With a 39-21 (21-4) away victory at 1. FSV Mainz 05, the BVB women improved their record to 24-0 and are three points clear of defending champions Bietigheim at the top of the Handball-Bundesliga.

Coach André Fuhr showed right from the outset that he was taking the away game in Mainz seriously, despite playing the team lying second bottom of the league. After 10 minutes, Borussia Dortmund were 8-1 up. After 20 minutes, they had extended their lead to 15-2 in a one-sided game, as BVB hit several fast breaks after strong defence.

After heading into the dressing rooms 4-21 down, the recently promoted home side did much better in the second half, with BVB not playing with the same level of consistency as in the first half. Inger Smits was BVB's best thrower with seven goals. Isabell Roch saved three penalties. (br)
