Borussia's women's team also lost their second friendly of the year as they suffered a 2-1 (0-1) defeat away to Bezirksliga side FC Kray. Vanessa Kuhl scored the Black & Yellows' only goal to put them in the lead in adverse conditions at the KrayArena in Essen.

Amid cold, windy conditions and pouring rain, the BVB women dominated their deep-lying opponents in terms of possession in the first half – without creating any good chances. Vanessa Kuhl was the only one to find the net when her free-kick from 35 metres went in off the inside of the post (35). "A poor game with poor passing quality," was the assessment of the opening 45 minutes from coach Thomas Sulewski.

He made eight changes at the interval and his team played "significantly better football". Chances remained few and far between, however, and "we defended terribly twice," said Sulewski in reference to the two conceded goals (60/80).

For the first time in their young history, the BVB women have lost two games in a row. "That's not good mentally, but it wasn't a good performance either and fortunately we are still in the preparation period," Sulewski concluded.

The next friendly is coming up on Sunday 5 February. The Borussia ladies will take on the MSV Duisburg reserves at the BVB Evonik Football Academy at 15:00 CET.
