The Spaniard Carmen Campos Costa will join the Borussia Dortmund women's handball team ahead of the 2023/24 season. The playmaker will move to BVB from French top-flight outfit Jeanne d'Arc Dijon Handball.

Carmen Campos Costa has penned a deal with BVB until the end of 2024/25. The 27-year-old Madrid native has so far made 51 appearances for the Spanish national team, scoring 139 goals. The playmaker was part of the "Guerreras" squad for both the 2021 World Cup in her home country and the European Championships that took place last November.

"The transfer is a little adventure for me, but in a positive sense. It will be a great challenge for me to get to know another country and another culture. But BVB is also incredibly appealing to me from a sporting viewpoint and I'm already looking forward to my time in Dortmund," Campos said. This will be her second overseas club. Before moving to France, the Spaniard plied her trade for BM Villawerde, HC Puig d*en Vails and BM Atlético Gaurdés in her homeland.

Rupert Thiele, the president of the handball department, declared: "We wanted to sign an established player for this position and I'm very happy we've managed that with Carmen. With her style of handball, she will quickly fit in with us."

Andreas Kuno, the deputy president of the handball department, explained: "We are convinced that Carmen is a very good complement to Frida Rønning in the playmaker position. She brings a lot of experience from her appearances with the national team and knows what it's like to play overseas. She will particularly help us at international level."
