The BVB women claimed a 2-0 (1-0) victory away to SV Fortuna Freudenberg II on Sunday afternoon thanks to goals from Marie Grothe. As second-placed Borussia Dröschede lost to VfL Bochum II, BVB are now guaranteed promotion to the Westfalenliga.

The BVB women continue to rise through the ranks. Thanks to their 2-0 victory against SV Fortuna Freudenberg II, the Black & Yellows can no longer be ousted from top spot in Landesliga Pool 2 with five matchdays remaining and have therefore wrapped up promotion to the Westfalenliga. It is the third promotion in the space of three years for the BVB senior women's team.

The BVB women made a good start to their away match against Freundenberg, who are third in the table, and opened the scoring through Marie Grothe early on (3). The opposition subsequently held their own well and at times even had a better foothold in the match. "It wasn't a good game from us," explained coach Thomas Sulewski, whose team had the possibility of promotion on their minds. "The performance was partly due to the circumstances. We knew what could happen. We also had a team on the pitch that had never played together in this constellation before."

Sulewski found the right words at the break. His team fought their way into the match in the second period and extended their advantage to 2-0 in the 68th minute. Marie Grothe was again the scorer. Sulewski also singled out goalkeeper Sandra Schröer for special praise, who kept her team in the game with several saves and played her part in the victory. "Now we're delighted about the promotion," the coach said happily after the final whistle. The team will make their way from Freudenberg to Dortmund, where they will be congratulated for today's success at half-time in the Bundesliga match against Bayer Leverkusen.

The BVB women will continue their campaign next Sunday (28/04) with a home game against SF Sümmern. Kick-off at Stadion Rote Erde is at 15:00 CEST.

BVB women: Schröer – Klemann, Becker (Reinhardt, 65), Haslsteiner, Glänzer – Gomulka (Rogge-Herper, 83) – Tayeh, Tan, Grothe, Bedarf (Kuhl, 74) – Naceva (Kaul, 83)
