Borussia Dortmund have only had a walking football team for three weeks. Nonetheless, at their first-ever tournament in Gelsenkirchen, the walking Black & Yellows were able to secure an impressive seventh place finish.

Walking football, in which running is not permitted, is aimed at Borussia fans aged 60 and over who still enjoy playing competitive football.

BVB got their first-ever walking football tournament underway with a win over PSV Eindhoven. The second match also ended in victory. After drawing their third match, the Black & Yellows brought the first round of the tournament to a close with a narrow 2-1 loss against eventual winners Bayer Leverkusen. Borussia ended the first round of the tournament placed third in their group.

The Black & Yellows ultimately ended the second round of the tournament with one win, one draw and one defeat, which was enough to secure a respectable seventh place finish among the field of 12 teams.

BVB will have a second shot at glory in early 2020, when the same set of teams will go head-to-head once more in the Netherlands. In addition to the sporting side of things, the BVB team were also keen to exchange ideas with the other participants, make new contacts and arrange the next friendly matches with the various teams from Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany.
