Football Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund have reached an agreement in principle with FC Augsburg for the transfer of coach Enrico Maassen. The details are set to be finalised in the coming days.

The 38-year-old, who moved to BVB from SV Rödinghausen two years ago, coached the U23s in Dortmund and led them to promotion to the 3. Liga thanks to a first-place finish in the Regionalliga West in the spring of 2021. Maassen's charges ended last season with a ninth-place finish in the third tier.

"We had an unbelievably successful time at BVB. I'd like to say a big thank-you to everyone who was involved in this period with our promotion and our first season in what was the highest-possible league for us, especially of course our U23 sporting director Ingo Preuß. Working at BVB has always been great fun. I'm very grateful that Borussia Dortmund are now allowing me this opportunity at Augsburg," said Enrico Maassen.

BVB's future sporting director Sebastian Kehl said: "We would like to thank Enrico Maassen for his very good work as the coach of our second team. We naturally did not want to deny him the opportunity to become a Bundesliga coach. It fills us with pride that another coach from the BVB youth setup is making the leap to the professional game. We wish Enrico Maassen every possible success at his new place of work."
