Borussia Dortmund have agreed to extend the contract of Marwin Hitz, which was due to expire at the end of the season, by another two years. The new contract runs until 30 June 2023. The 33-year-old goalkeeper has been playing for BVB since 2018.

"We hold Marwin in very high regard – both as a player and as a person. That is why it made sense to extend the contract," said sporting director Michael Zorc.

The Swiss international (two full caps) joined BVB in the summer of 2018 after making 154 Bundesliga appearances for Wolfsburg (13) and Augsburg (141). Since then, he has played 25 competitive matches. Until February 2020, the team were undefeated with Hitz in goal.

Hitz is married and his third child, daughter Joséphine Marie, was born in Dortmund. "My family and I feel very comfortable in Dortmund. Even this season, we still have ambitious targets that we want to achieve together on the pitch. I would like to say thank you for the trust the club have shown in me and I can't wait to see our fans back in the stadium as soon as possible."
