Marco Reus had to wait until the closing stages of the match in Amsterdam before making one of his most pivotal contributions in the white and black of Germany. With the score locked at 2-2 in a EURO 2020 qualifier, Reus replaced Serge Gnabry in the 88th minute and barely 120 seconds had elapsed before his team-mates were mobbing him. Reus played a precise cross into the path of Nico Schulz and the Hoffenheim full-back slotted home to secure an important last-minute victory over the Netherlands.

Reus had already demonstrated his supersub qualities in the friendly against Serbia – captained by former BVB player Antonio Rukavina – in Wolfsburg four days earlier. The Borussia Dortmund captain provided the assist for Leon Goretzka's equaliser in the 1-1 draw against the Eagles.

Sancho shines for the Three Lions

Elsewhere, England's Jadon Sancho, who has already assisted 12 goals for the Black & Yellows in the Bundesliga this term, shone on the international stage too. He created Raheem Sterling's opener to put the young Three Lions on the path to an impressive 5-0 thrashing of the Czech Republic at Wembley on Thursday evening. On Monday – his 19th birthday – the Dortmund youngster will be in European Championship qualification action once again as Gareth Southgate's young guns face a trip to Montenegro. That match in Podgorica will kick off at 20:45 CET.

Meanwhile, all is well for Jacob Bruun Larsen after the 20-year-old was promoted at short notice from the U21s to the senior squad by Denmark coach Age Hareide. The winger started his country's friendly in Kosovo alongside club team-mate Thomas Delaney, who was making his 35th international appearance. The two Black & Yellows are next in international action on Tuesday evening (20:45 CET), when they will face a Switzerland side containing team-mate Manuel Akanji. The Swiss won their first qualifier in Georgia 2-0, with centre-back Akanji playing the full 90 minutes.
