Borussia Dortmund are increasing the number of season ticket spaces at Signal Iduna Park from 55,000 to 55,500 ahead of the 2018/19 season in an attempt to create a regular place for more people on the waiting list than just those who obtain a season ticket thanks to cancellations.

BVB are upping the total number of season tickets for the 2018/19 season by a further 500 (250 in the standing and seated areas respectively)! As a result, the most patient of the patient are being rewarded for their long-term loyalty. Including the 242 existing season ticket contracts that were cancelled – either by the season ticket holders themselves or BVB – by the deadline of 21 June 2018, this means that there are 742 season tickets to be reallocated! Persons interested in both seated and standing spaces will receive a season ticket offer at the start of July.

In order to inject additional momentum into the season ticket waiting list, there will be further measures introduced with the sole objective of increasingly prioritising access to SIGNAL IDUNA PARK to fans who really want to attend every single home matchday. That's why, ahead of the 2019/2020 season, BVB reserves the right to cancel the contracts for season tickets whose holders have either used them fewer than 10 times personally during the course of the previous season and/or have not made use of the season ticket via any of the other permissible channels.

In plain language, that means that if someone can't come – whether it's for work reasons or due to illness – then it's not a problem at all! The BVB Secondary Ticket Market, a platform that can be used for the legal transfer of tickets, was set up for this very purpose. Additionally, those season tickets that are made available for individual matches via the platform count as having been used.

Borussia Dortmund are far from being the only club to adopt such a policy, with other Bundesliga teams having already resorted to similar measures. Ultimately, it's all about achieving one goal: the team needs maximum support from the stands – and full stands make a significantly better impression than when there are visible gaps in the crowd.

Recently, BVB have been giving major thought to the idea of granting a proportion of the standing season ticket holders without the option for international matches a new opportunity to attend games in the UEFA Champions League or the Europa League (in the seated area).
