Borussia Dortmund striker Steffen Tigges, 23, will join fellow Bundesliga club 1. FC Cologne ahead of the coming season.

Tigges, who is currently undergoing rehab after fracturing his ankle, moved to the BVB reserves from VfL Osnabrück in the summer of 2019 and was later promoted to the senior squad. In total, Tigges made 23 appearances for the first team in the Bundesliga, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and DFB-Pokal, scoring three goals.

"Steffen Tigges has undergone a great sporting development over the past few years and has also been a huge asset to us as a person thanks to his positive, open and down-to-earth manner. We'd like to thank him for his commitment to our teams and wish him all the best in Cologne," said BVB's sporting director to-be Sebastian Kehl.

Steffen Tigges added: "I owe a lot to many people at this club. I'd like to thank my team-mates, my coaches and the staff members within the first team and U23 squads for the past three years. I'd especially like to thank every single fan who has supported us and me, even in difficult times. I've always enjoyed playing in front of and for you! BVB will forever keep a place in my heart."
