A Black & Yellow encounter in Copenhagen, a hard-fought win for Julian Brandt and Marco Reus with Germany and a long-distance trip for Axel Witsel and Thorgan Hazard. Although the Bundesliga was on hiatus over the weekend, several BVB players were nonetheless in competitive action. Here BVB.de provides an overview of the Black & Yellows' international adventures.

Normally they both line up on the same team wearing Black & Yellow. But on Saturday, although they were both clad in the same colours - red and white - they were going head-to-head on opposing sides. Thomas Delaney and Manuel Akanji both played the full 90 minutes of the Euro qualification match between Denmark and Switzerland, but as the final whistle went, only one of them was celebrating. Delaney's Denmark side battled their way to a 1-0 win which puts them in an excellent position as the qualifiers for next year's Euros enter the final straight.

Things are also looking good for the German national team in Group C after a 3-0 win in Estonia. Marco Reus and Julian Brandt were both in the starting line-up as Germany fought their way to a hard-earned win in what proved to be a tetchy encounter. The visitors were unable to break the hosts' hardy resistance until the second half, with BVB captain Reus providing the assist for the second goal of the match, scored by Ilkay Gündogan.

Belgian duo victorious, Sancho defeated

Axel Witsel and Thorgan Hazard's Belgium side made the long trip to Kazakhstan, with both players named in the starting line-up. Despite having already secured their place at EURO 2020, the Belgians showed no signs of slacking off, running out 2-0 winners on the night. Both Witsel and Hazard played the entirety of the match. The same was true for Raphael Guerreiro, who celebrated a 3-0 win over Luxembourg with Portugal on Friday evening.

Jadon Sancho and the England national team endured a disappointing evening in the Czech Republic on Friday. The "Three Lions" suffered a 2-1 loss in the top-of-the-table clash in Group A. The defeat marked the end of a ten year run in which England managed to go undefeated in all qualifying matches for international tournaments. Sancho lined up in the starting XI and was substituted off in the 73rd minute. He was thus powerless to prevent the Czechs from grabbing the winning goal five minutes from time.

Leonardo Balerdi was also in action, with the BVB man turning out for Argentina in their 6-1 rout of Ecuador. The young defender came on as a substitute in the 82nd minute to earn his second cap for his country. Achraf Hakimi, meanwhile, was an unused substitute as his Morocco side drew 1-1 with Libya on Friday evening.
