Bundesliga, UEFA Champions League and perhaps a cup tie too. Here's how October looks for the Borussia Dortmund first team.

Wednesday 4 October (21:00 CET) BVB vs. AC Milan
The first game of October will already be a highlight: BVB will play host to AC Milan in their first home game of this year’s UEFA Champions League group phase. The most recent meeting with the Italian giants came 20 years ago: in the group phase of the competition in the 2002/03 campaign, the respective away team won both matches by a 1-0 scoreline. Striker Jan Koller scored the goal for the Black & Yellows.

Saturday 7 October (15:30 CET): BVB vs. 1. FC Union Berlin
Up next is another home game, with Union Berlin the visitors to SIGNAL IDUNA PARK in the Bundesliga. The Köpenick outfit have qualified for the UEFA Champions League for the first time in the club’s history and will go up against Sporting Braga a few days before their clash with BVB. Union made their Champions League debut away to Real Madrid, where the team held their own for a long time and only conceded through Jude Bellingham’s goal in stoppage time.

Friday 20 October (20:30 CET): BVB vs. Werder Bremen
Following the international fixtures and the resulting Bundesliga break, BVB will kick off Matchday 8 with a home game against Werder Bremen. A Friday evening under the floodlights – the Black & Yellows have not lost any of their last 35 home games on a Friday night. The last home defeat on that day of the week was in January 2004. BVB will be aiming to continue that run against Bremen.

Wednesday 25 October (21:00 CET): Newcastle United vs. BVB
The second away day of the current Champions League campaign is coming up. After the opener away to Paris Saint-Germain (2-0 loss), BVB are now off to England. Newcastle United qualified for the UEFA Champions League after finishing fourth in the Premier League behind Manchester City, Arsenal and Manchester United. It is their first campaign since 2002 and their third overall. It will be their first competitive meeting with BVB.

27-29 October (not yet scheduled): Eintracht Frankfurt vs. BVB
The meeting with Conference League participant Eintracht Frankfurt will be the final Bundesliga match of the month. The last two away games on the Main ended in victory for BVB (2-1 in October 2022 and 3-2 in January 2022). This next clash with the Hesse outfit has not yet been scheduled. According to the DFL, the next precise scheduling for the Bundesliga will probably take place next week, after the draw for the second round of the DFB-Pokal has been conducted.

Tuesday 31 October/Wednesday 1 November (not yet drawn): Second round of the DFB-Pokal
Shkodran Mustafi will pull out the names when the draw for second round of the DFB-Pokal takes place at the German Football Museum this Sunday evening. BVB emerged as 6-1 victors away to TSV Schott Mainz in the first round in mid-August. The Black & Yellows will play in the second round either on 31 October or 1 November.
