Tuchel's view of the situation prior to the return leg
Only three questions were asked at the press conference after the 2-0 win over Porto - and curiously, none of them directly concerned the match. Here's Thomas Tuchel's view on...
…BVB's comfortable position heading into the return leg: "It is half-time. I expect them to have more quality with Danilo Pereira and Maxi Pereira. I expect to see Porto at their best at home in front of passionate fans. I expect us to need the same top performance level to make it through to the next round. We will prepare ourselves well and will need our best performance."
…the fact that Borussia often keep a clean sheet: "Perhaps the problem is that statistically we concede very, very few chances but in relation to this we have conceded too many goals. Perhaps we have simply become more alert after everyone spoke to us about it. I am very happy about it, it's really not something you can take for granted."
…Nuri Sahin's comeback: "Nuri was super. We couldn't hold him back any longer. He's been itching to play for weeks now. He is training fantastically, session after session. I recently spoke to him and said: 'Nuri, I'd ideally like to arrange a friendly for you so that you get to put the shirt on again, so that you know how it feels and so that you get your spatial awareness back. But I don't know when I should arrange that.' He replied to me: 'I don't need a friendly, I'm ready.' And that's how it was. We placed our trust in him. I am very happy that it worked out. It was clear that he would play a maximum of 60 minutes. He played fantastically. It is really quite something to come back after such a long break and perform like that on the pitch. He is always alert, passes well, is intelligent and has a good instinct for spaces where we have numerical superiority. It was great to watch." (fu)
