U17s face Schalke in the Westfalenpokal final

Borussia's U17s have the chance to win a second title after claiming the German Championship: Marco Lehmann's boys will play host to FC Schalke 04 in the final of the Westfalenpokal at 18:00 CEST on Wednesday 22 May at the Youth Performance Centre.

But Lehmann is not keen on how the fixture has been scheduled: "It feels like the season is over for us with the final match for the German Championship. But we will of course try to make the best of the situation." A team made up of U17s, U16s and U15s players fought hard in the semi-final against Hombrucher SV and eventually prevailed after a penalty shoot-out.

Marco Lehmann is also complaining about severe personnel issue ahead of the clash with Schalke. Elias Benkara, Tyler Meiser, Ousmane Diallo and Taycan Etcibasi remain with the U19s, Thierry Tazemeta is playing with the Austrian national team at the U17 European Championships, and several regular players are either injured or struggling in one way or another.

“It goes without saying that Schalke are the clear favourites under these circumstances,” said Marco Lehmann ahead of what will probably be his last match as Borussia's U17s coach. As of next season, he will take over the U16s as part of the coaching rotation, with Karsten Gorges taking Lehmann's place in the U17s.
