It was a successful Saturday for our junior teams, who won their respective matches 2-0: the U19s won away against a Viktoria Cologne side managed by former BVB man Jürgen Kohler, while the U17s beat Arminia Bielefeld in the top match of the round.

BVB were extremely dominant in Cologne but their attacking line struggled to break down a well-marshalled Viktoria defence for much of the match. Reda Khardra and Youssoufa Moukoko both netted after the break, however, to give Michael Skibbe's side a deserved victory. The Black & Yellows will now turn their attentions to the first match of their Youth League campaign against Barcelona on Tuesday (16:00 CET in Brackel).

Meanwhile, despite their captain Dennis Lütke Frie withdrawing through injury at the last minute, Sebastian Geppert's charges dominated their third-placed opponents following a cautious opening quarter-hour and could have won by a much higher margin. The 2-0 scoreline, thanks to goals from Ken Mata (28) and Bradley Fink (80), did not reflect the full extent of their dominance, with Tekin Gencoglu having a penalty saved by Arminia goalie Ara (53). Nonetheless, the Black & Yellows comfortably cemented their grip on top spot. (wiwi)
