Christian Preusser, 38, will become the new head coach of the BVB U23s. Born in Berlin, he will take over from Enrico Maaßen, who moved to Bundesliga side FC Augsburg a few days ago. Preusser signed a two-year contract on Friday.

From 2009 to 2015, Preusser held several positions at RW Erfurt – first as coach of the U19s and head of the youth performance centre, then later as assistant and then head coach in the 3. Liga. In the summer of 2013, he completed an internship with Borussia Dortmund under head coach Jürgen Klopp for several weeks. After his time in Erfurt, he moved to the second team of SC Freiburg in 2016, leading them to glory in the Regionalliga South West in the 2020/2021 season and managed to secure promotion to the 3. Liga. Last season, Preusser coached Fortuna Düsseldorf in the 2. Bundesliga.

The coach will take charge of his first training session in Dortmund on Friday morning. "I am very much looking forward to this exciting task at Borussia Dortmund and am happy that we were able to come to an agreement so quickly," says Preusser.

Ingo Preuss, sporting director of the BVB U23s, stressed: "The fact that we were able to hire an exciting coach like Christian Preusser at such short notice shows just how attractive our second team are."
