The Borussia Dortmund U23s will be away to FC Ingolstadt on Saturday (04/02). Kick-off at the Audi-Sportpark is at 14:00 CET.

BVB's game against FCI this Saturday will be a coming together of the only two teams in the 3. Liga yet to pick up a point this calendar year. The Black & Yellows are now on a six-match losing streak. Last Sunday's 1-0 defeat at the hands of SV Wehen Wiesbaden was another close contest, but Christian Preusser's team still came away empty-handed. The U23s held their own against the second-placed team for long spells but denied themselves a point by missing a penalty, among other things. Only one of three penalties they have been awarded this season has been converted – an example of the team's poor scoring record. BVB have the joint-worst attack in the league this term along with SpVgg Bayreuth.

The defeat has also had a noticeable impact on the standings. Last week, Borussia's youngsters were just above the drop zone. But with almost all their direct rivals picking up points, the Black & Yellows have now slipped into a relegation spot.

Their next opponents will be equally dissatisfied with the table at present. Ingolstadt were still within touching distance of the direct promotion places heading into the winter break, they have since fallen off the pace after a poor restart to the campaign. That downturn in form prompted the Southern Germans to part ways with coach Rüdiger Rehm this week. The new man on the sidelines is Guerino Capretti. Prior to his short spell in Dresden towards the end of last season, the Westphalian with Italian roots spent five years coaching SC Verl. BVB ran out 3-0 winners the last time they went up against the 40-year-old tactician, who was still in the hot seat in Verl at the time.

Borussia Dortmund will have less fond memories of the reverse fixture against Capretti's current club, FC Ingolstadt. The Black & Yellows lost 4-0 – their biggest defeat of the season to date – against the relegated team from the second tier. BVB will not only be aiming to put that defeat in the return fixture behind them, but also to finally get back on track. Marco Pasalic will be available to help. The U23s' most prolific attacker at present will return to the squad after serving a suspension and will be hoping to play a part in Dortmund coming out on top in this one.
