After an intense few days of training, the Borussia Dortmund U23s lined up for their first friendly match of the pre-season in the Aplerbecker Waldstadion. Coach Mike Tullberg's side were pitted against Preußen Münster, a third-tier side whose pre-season training started a few days prior to that of the Black & Yellows. Good morale and a firm sense of joy in the game were enough to secure a hard-fought 3-2 win for BVB, who trailed 2-1 at the interval.

Throughout the first half, Borussia impressed with aggressive Gegenpressing without the ball and quick combination play in attack with the ball. It only took ten minutes for the first celebratory scenes of the match. A delicate eye-of-the-needle through ball by Steffen Tigges played in Chris Führich, who duly slotted home from close range to make it 1-0. Preußen responded well and were able to find an equaliser on the half-hour mark: a Münster player was brought down in the box and the penalty taker made no mistake to bring the two sides level. Seven minutes before the end of the first half, a lapse of concentration in the newly-assembled Dortmund back four gifted Münster the lead: Fridolin Wagner was played in on goal down the left-hand side and was able to find the back of the net to bring the score to 2-1.

''The first ten minutes after the break were top class,'' said BVB coach Tullberg in his post-match interview. What he was referring to were two goals scored in the space of four minutes by Emre Aydinel, newly promoted from the U19s, which gave the Black & Yellows a 3-2 lead. Both goals stemmed from turnovers in midfield caused by the side's intensive Gegenpressing. The young striker was certainly pleased with his step-up to senior football: ''It's obviously a really great day for me, but I also think we played very well as a team today. We had some really solid routines out there, that's something we can build on. We play a very aggressive, but also fair, brand of football. That's what Borussia Dortmund is all about.''

BVB coach Mike Tullberg was pleased with his side's performance, but also felt there were certain aspects that could be improved on: ''I praised the boys, I really enjoyed watching them play today. We showed a lot of courage when we had the ball. We need to work on our fitness levels over the next few days, because if you want to play aggressive football, you have to be able to run a lot.''

The side's next friendly match is lined up for this Friday. The Waldstadion will be the venue once more as the Black & Yellows face local club ASC 09 Dortmund. Kick-off is 19:00 CET.
