Borussia Dortmund have finished UEFA Champions League Group A in first place. They will find out their opponents for the last 16 − the first knockout round will commence on 12 February 2019 − at the draw in Nyon on Monday (17 December).

The draw: The draw for the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 will be held at UEFA headquarters in Nyon and will start at 12:00 CET on Monday (17 December). Pot 1 will contain the eight group winners and Pot 2 will contain the eight group runners-up. Country protection means teams cannot face domestic rivals yet, while it is equally not possible for two clubs from the same group to be drawn together. The group winner has home advantage for the second leg.

The opponents: Tottenham, Liverpool and Roma have already been confirmed as runners-up and are potential opponents. They will be joined by two or three possible candidates from groups E-H on Wednesday, potentially Ajax, Manchester City or Olympique Lyon and Juventus or Manchester United. BVB cannot face Bayern Munich (should they finish second in Group E), Schalke 04 (second in Group D) or Atlético Madrid for the aforementioned reasons.

The dates: The Round of 16 ties will be divided into two groups. Four first legs will take place on 12/13 February, with the other four being played on 19/20 February (two on the Tuesday and two on the Wednesday). The return legs are scheduled for 6/7 March and 13/14 March. Who will face who and when they will play will be determined after the draw. That means the precise dates of the BVB fixtures will not be known until early on Monday afternoon at the earliest.

The tickets: The advance sale for the last 16 return leg on 6/7 or 13./14 March 2019 at Signal Iduna Park will begin on 21 January. More detailed information on this will follow after the draw on Monday.
