Women's handballers discover Final Four opponents
On Tuesday at 16:00 CET, the draw for the Final Four of the EHF European League was conducted at the venue in Graz. Borussia Dortmund will face Danish outfit Nykøbing Falster Håndboldklub in the semi-finals on 13 May.
Henk Groener is looking forward to the challenge. "Ikast have shown themselves to be the strongest of all the teams so far; we know Thüringer HC very well, but Nykøbing Falster are a bit of an unknown. But as the fourth-placed team in the Danish league, you automatically possess a lot of quality. We will definitely have to play at our best to win," said the coach.
But in his eyes, that would have been the case with any other opponent. "All four group winners have made it to the Final Four, which speaks volumes. However, the game is still a very long way away and we still have some important games in the Bundesliga that we have to focus on beforehand," he added.
"It is of course a very challenging draw, no question about it," said Head of Department Rupert Thiele. "But we're not going to Graz as tourists, but because we want to make it to the final. It will certainly be difficult, but nobody would have expected us to make it to the Final Four after the first leg in Nantes. It's a cliché, but in sport everything is always possible."
The throw-off time for the semi-final on 13 May has not yet been set, but will be precisely scheduled soon.
