Borussia Dortmund will travel to Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga on Sunday full of confidence following two strong home displays against Bayer 04 Leverkusen and FC Barcelona. At the press conference prior to the trip to Hesse, BVB coach Lucien Favre and sporting director Michael Zorc revealed their expectations for Sunday.

"We were obviously all a bit disappointed in the direct aftermath of the match," said Lucien Favre on Friday lunchtime as he reflected on the goalless draw against Barcelona in the Champions League. But while he acknowledged the Black & Yellows might have taken more from the game, the Swiss tactician was quick to add: "In hindsight, we're satisfied with our performance. We created five or six very good chances against a very strong opponent. There's a lot of positives to take from the game." For opponents Frankfurt, the European campaign did not get off to an ideal start. Coach Adi Hütter's charges lost 3-0 to English outfit Arsenal in the Europa League on Thursday evening, although Favre felt the result "did not reflect the balance of play". When asked about the longer recovery period that his team had before Sunday's match, having faced Barça on Tuesday, the coach pointed out that the Eagles were familiar with the "Thursday-Sunday rhythm" from last season and so it "shouldn't be a problem for them".

Schulz, Morey and Hitz unavailable, Piszczek a doubt

Favre will continue to be without Nico Schulz and Mateu Morey for the trip to the Commerzbank Arena, while Marwin Hitz is still ill and not in contention. Another doubt for the weekend is Lukasz Piszczek, as Favre explained: "Lukasz has trained with the team but we won't know until tomorrow whether he'll make the squad." Turning his attention to the Frankfurt squad, Favre praised the new-look front line following the summer departures of Luka Jovic, Ante Rebic and Sebastien Haller. "They've strengthened well," said the coach at the press conference.

Whoever ends up leading the line for the home side on Sunday, he can be sure of coming up against a strong opponent in Mats Hummels. The centre-back did not lose a single challenge in the clash with the Blaugrana in midweek and is becoming an increasingly pivotal figure in the Borussia Dortmund back line. "Mats is the best central defender in Germany. I said that before we signed him, I'll say it again now after those two top performances against Leverkusen and Barcelona, and I'm sure I'll still be saying it in 2020," said sporting director Michael Zorc of the 30-year-old.

Zorc calls for consistent away form

Zorc said that the "challenge for the next few weeks" would be to perform with greater consistency away from home. "We need to find solutions so that we can consistently fulfil our potential away from home. I see that as the next stage in our development if we're to be a top team in the long run. Frankfurt is a real test of our mettle."

A look at the stats ahead of the trip to ninth-placed Frankfurt suggests it will be a game with goals. BVB and SGE have not played out a goalless draw since 1990 (see the #SGEBVB match facts). Furthermore, Borussia Dortmund have claimed more wins against the Eagles than any other club in the league – 44 in 92 Bundesliga meetings. The way to get the better of Eintracht on Sunday will be to "win the ball back intelligently", Favre explained at the press conference. "It's probably not going to be a similar game to our recent ones against Leverkusen and Barcelona, where our opponents had more of the ball," said Favre. "Although we dealt very well with that in those matches."
