After the 90 minutes were up in Mönchengladbach, Marco Reus, Mats Hummels and Manuel Akanji shared their reactions to the game.

Marco Reus: "You can always defend corner situations. We've been repeating ourselves very, very often in the last few weeks in terms of our goals conceded. If you don't shut down the individual errors that lead to opposition goals, it's difficult to win matches. Nonetheless, I believe that we showed a decent reaction to the opening 10 minutes in the first half. In the second half, it was no longer a game that went from end to end. The goal we conceded for 3-2 was completely unnecessary. A goal should never happen in that situation. It's bitter and it robs you of your reward."

Mats Hummels: "We've lost another game through set-pieces today. We witnessed a really good football match from both teams and then we conceded three goals from set-pieces – and that's how you lose. Perhaps it was good play from Thuram for his goal. There are different factors, but defending set-pieces is a very big topic for us. In the first half, we delivered a top performance from the 10th minute onwards. The fact that we went in at the break with the score at 2-2 hurt slightly. We dropped off slightly in the second period. Not everything was bad today. In the end, it comes down to goals. We scored two and conceded four – so we lost."

Manuel Akanji: "We did not start the match well. We were already 1-0 down after a minute. The goal might not have counted, but it obviously wasn't a good start. We gave ourselves a good foothold when we made it 1-1, created lots of chances and took a 2-1 lead. Then we stupidly conceded the second goal. The game was open in the second period. Gladbach went 3-2 up, but we still had enough time to turn the game around. Then we conceded the set-piece goal in the closing minutes. We need to defend that better; it was too simple."
