Before Borussia Dortmund kick off their European campaign in September, they have several Bundesliga games in store in August. In total, they will contest four domestic matches. Another highlight coming up this month is the draw for the Champions League group stages.

Saturday 6 August (18:30 CET): BVB vs. Bayer Leverkusen
The campaign has already started on a winning note, with a victory over TSV 1860 Munich securing qualification for the DFB-Pokal second round. The hope will be for more of the same as the 2022/23 Bundesliga season gets under way. Bayer Leverkusen, who finished last season five points behind runners-up Borussia Dortmund in third place, will be the visitors for the opening game. Kick-off will be at 18:30 CET, in the top-match slot.

Friday 12 August (20:30 CET): SC Freiburg vs. BVB
The next floodlit match is on the horizon: SC Freiburg and BVB will kick off the second round of Bundesliga fixtures. It will be Dortmund's first visit to the new Europa-Park-Stadion, Freiburg's new home venue since October 2021. BVB were the visitors for one of the final Bundesliga matches at the Dreisamstadion almost a year earlier to the day. According to kicker, Nico Schlotterbeck was the "Man of the Match" that day. The central defender, who joined the Black & Yellows ahead of this season, will be swiftly reunited with his former team-mates – including his brother Keven, who still plays for Freiburg.

Saturday 20 August (15:30 CET): BVB vs. Werder Bremen
After a season away, Werder Bremen are back in the Bundesliga. The men from Bremen were promoted automatically after finishing second in the 2. Bundesliga and will visit SIGNAL IDUNA PARK for our second home game of the campaign. Two ex-Dortmund youth players, Amos Pieper and Marvin Ducksch, now ply their trade for the Green & Whites.

Thursday 25 August (18:00 CET): Draw for the Champions-League group stage
Who will be our three opponents in this year's UEFA Champions League group phase? This question will be answered when the draw takes place in Istanbul, the venue for the final, on 25 August at 18:00 CET. Borussia Dortmund will be among the names in pot 3. The group stages will begin shortly after the draw, with Matchday 1 scheduled to take place on 6/7 September.

Saturday 27 August (15:30 CET): Hertha BSC vs. BVB
Borussia Dortmund have another away trip at the end of the month – this time to Berlin. Their opponents will be Hertha BSC at the Olympiastadion at the traditional kick-off time of 15:30 CET on Saturday. Both teams won their respective home game last term, with the Black & Yellows having previously come out on top in all four match-ups in the previous two seasons.
