They are usually enticing encounters when the Black & Yellows take on the Green & Whites. No other fixture in Bundesliga history has produced more come-from-behind victories, with the team that conceded first winning on 16 occasions. Only three of the 98 matches have ended goalless – most recently 15 years ago. Here we bring you the key statistics.

The scenario: Sixth-placed Borussia Dortmund, who are winless in seven Bundesliga clashes, visit Werder Bremen, who have won two of their last three outings. BVB have won 11 of their last 12 meetings with Werder and have claimed victory in each of their last 10 duels at Signal Iduna Park.

Home/away: BVB are without a win at home since their 6-1 victory over Mönchengladbach, having drawn one and lost two since then. Bremen are still waiting for their first away win of the season and are winless in their last nine games on the road. Their last victory away from home came on 22 April 2017, when they beat Ingolstadt 4-2. However, Bremen have more away draws than any other team in the division this season (four).

Personnel matters: The Black & Yellows have seven injury absentees: Philipp, Castro, Götze, Piszczek, Reus, Rode and Durm. Bremen are without Zetterer, Johannsson and Zhang.

Head-to-head record: BVB have won each of their last 10 home games against Werder, with the Green & Whites last claiming points at Signal Iduna Park on 15 April 2007 when they won 2-0 courtesy of goals from Klose and Diego. At no other stadium in top-flight history have Bremen lost so many consecutive matches. Borussia have lost more times against Bremen than anyone else after being 1-0 up (nine), but they also have more come-from-behind victories against Werder than anyone else (seven, including last season). Of the 11 penalties awarded at the Strobelalle, nine have been in Borussia's favour.

Statistics: No team has scored more goals than Borussia Dortmund (34), who have only failed to find the net once in their last 14 matches. Only Leverkusen have scored in every game. Bremen have only managed nine goals, with only Cologne (six) scoring fewer. It is half the number they had at the same stage last season. However, only two teams have conceded fewer than Werder. Bremen have let in 16 – also half as many as a year ago. They already have five clean sheets.

Biggest home victory: The Westphalians have scored 157 times in meetings between the sides. The most they have managed in a game was in a 5-0 home victory on 2 February 1980 thanks to goals from Wolfgang Vöge, Theo Schneider (two), Manfred Burgsmüller and Herbert Hein.

Attendance: Signal Iduna Park is sold out with 81,360 fans to attend.

Referee: Manuel Gräfe from Berlin will oversee the Bundesliga meeting with Werder Bremen, with Markus Sinn and Robert Kempter supporting him from the touchlines. Frederick Assmuth will be the fourth official. It is the internationally renowned referee's 44th match involving BVB.
