"In the second half we had better organisation, better use of space and got into the game more," said new coach Peter Stöger at a press conference in which he dedicated the victory to his predecessor Peter Bosz.

Peter Stöger on the victory at 1. FSV Mainz 05:
"It was gratifying, and important for both parties: both BVB and myself have finally got our first Bundesliga win for quite some time. That's a good combination. Lots of the positive aspects that were on show today also belong to Peter Bosz, who has left behind something really good here. A part of this match and this victory belongs to him."

...on the balance of play:
"You could see that things weren't quite flowing naturally for us, especially at the outset. We had a few problems in one or two situations. In the second half we had better organisation, better use of space and got into the game more. We could've extended the lead earlier."

...on his influence on the team following such a short introductory period:
"We had one training session in which we tried to focus on tactical matters. If the scope of training is limited, it's important that you just pick out one or two things. There has been lots of talking and listening. That was the main task during this short period."

...on Julian Weigl's role as a deep-lying distributor of the ball:
"I try to organise the system of play in such a way that the individual player is in the position he feels the most comfortable in. As a coach, you depend on what your players are able to produce."
