"We invited Bayern to score goals by making individual errors," said BVB coach Peter Stöger after the match. "We're not playing like a team with the ambition of being the second-best in Germany." Marcel Schmelzer added: "The opposition's movement was much better, they played cat and mouse with us." Here we bring you the reactions to the 6-0 defeat in Munich.

Peter Stöger: "We did way too many things wrong. The basic virtues that were once the basis for success here at Borussia Dortmund were missing. When you play against a team that has that much quality and ambition, it can go really wrong if you don't display those basic virtues. Bayern exploited our weaknesses mercilessly, playing like we did you can never hope to compete at the same level. Today we were made to pay heavily for the way we defended. We invited Bayern to score goals by making individual errors. They were gifts that cannot be allowed to happen. But I am not interested in criticising individual errors. It's about the attitude. We're not playing like a team with the ambition of being the second-best in Germany. Perhaps a hammering like this will even do us good, by allowing us to be even more critical in our evaluation."

Marcel Schmelzer: "Even if I were to explain that before the game we had high hopes, the point is: you could clearly see that we didn't put any of it into practice. We didn't go into the tackles, we were always a step behind. The opposition's movement was way better, they played cat and mouse with us. At half-time we asked ourselves how something like this could happen. You can talk all day and night but the fact is that we need to perform on the pitch, which we didn't do today. We really need to pull ourselves together for the rest of our matches, because qualification for the Champions League is at stake."

"The next time we play things could be different again"

Jupp Heynckes: "It is often difficult to find your rhythm after an international break. We managed that very well. The team was very focused from the beginning. We needed to make a statement and we did so excellently for the full 90 minutes. Especially in the first-half, it was a whirlwind performance."

Mats Hummels: "In the second half we dropped down a gear or two, we didn't have to go all out because BVB were focused on damage limitations. That was understandable from both sides. There were a lot of former team-mates on the pitch today, so of course you feel a bit of sympathy. I myself once lost 5-1 here. I know how much that hurts. But the next time we play things could be different again." (djg)
