Marco Reus bemoaned what he deemed to be a poorly-struck penalty, while both he and Mats Hummels lamented the other chances spurned. But they were satisfied with the strong performance, too. "We can build on that," the pair told Sky after the game.

Mats Hummels: "We had a lot of chances but didn't give much away. Based on the first half, the final result is fair. In the second half, we were totally in the game, applied pressure and forced Barça into errors. We had a lot of big goalscoring opportunities, so unfortunately we're going home with the feeling we've dropped two points. But we can certainly build on that performance from the second period. All in all, we defended well as a team and gave it our all. Now we have two away matches ahead of us in the Champions League. We obviously want to progress at all costs; it's not going to be easy. We now need to show what we're made of. Today we showed how strong we can be."

Marco Reus: "Unfortunately, my penalty was a poor strike. But we also had four or five other opportunities. We should've put one of them away and then we would've ended up as the winners. But we can build on that performance. Barcelona hardly had any chances and only the little space that we allowed them. We said after the draw that we wanted to qualify. It's all to play for after the first matchday. We now need to reproduce what we showed today in the upcoming matches. If we do, I have no concerns whatsoever that we can achieve our objective."
