Youssoufa Moukoko became the youngest player to play in the Bundesliga on Saturday night at the age of 16 years and one day. He broke a record that had been held for over 15 years by Nuri Sahin – also of Borussia Dortmund – who made his first appearance away to Wolfsburg in August 2005 at the age of 16 years and 335 days.

"The record held for 15 years. It was clear that Youssoufa would be the one to break it at some point," said Nuri Sahin in a video message. "I'm delighted that he's one of us and that it's a Borussia player who has broken this record. I'd like to take this opportunity to wish you all the very best, dear Youssoufa!"

Moukoko, who scored 141 goals in 88 appearances for the Borussia Dortmund U17s and U19s, has been eligible for the first team since turning 16 on Friday and was brought off the bench by Lucien Favre in the 85th minute. Following the game in Berlin, the coach said: "The debut is good for him and good for the team. It's important that he knows that he now belongs to the first team. But we have a lot of talented players up top, and many in defence too. He's young – very, very young..." (br)
