Thomas Meunier was not really able to enjoy his first goal in a Black & Yellow shirt. Speaking after the final whistle, the Belgian said: "We've had so many opportunities to get back in the top three. Something's been missing every time."

Thomas Meunier: "This is not a good result for us. We had so many chances; it's unbelievable that we only scored one goal. There were so many positive things on display. We panicked slightly in defence when Mainz counter-attacked us. We should've defended the goal we conceded better. And we should've had slightly more patience ourselves as well. It wasn't a bad game, but we're disappointed with the result. My first goal for BVB obviously doesn't leave me feeling satisfied today. Leverkusen didn't win yesterday. We've had so many opportunities to get back in the top three. Something's been missing every time. We need to work on that."
