Borussia Dortmund have now won three consecutive league games for the first time under Edin Terzic. After the victories over Stuttgart, Bremen and Union Berlin, the Black & Yellows will now look to pick up a further three points in the battle for Champions League qualification when they travel to Wolfsburg on Saturday (kick-off 15:30 CET).

VfL Wolfsburg are third in the standings and thus occupy one of the places that guarantee qualification for next season's UEFA Champions League. At one point, Wolfsburg held an 11-point advantage over the Black & Yellows; the gap now stands at just five points. A win on Saturday would see Edin Terzic's side cut the lead to just two points, while a defeat would give VfL an eight-point cushion. ''If Wolfsburg go eight points ahead with just three games left then of course it will be hard to catch them. It's a final for us against Wolfsburg,'' said Terzic, adding: ''We're very confident as our performances have been really solid over the last three Bundesliga games. If we play well again tomorrow, there's a good chance that we'll be just two points behind Wolfsburg when the final whistle goes.'' The reverse fixture at the start of the year ended in a 2-0 win for BVB, with Manuel Akanji and Jadon Sancho scoring the goals.

Sancho made his return to action against Union on Wednesday, coming on as a substitute in the 59th minute to mark the end of his injury-enforced absence. The young attacker immediately made his presence felt in the game: ''He made a brilliant impression. With him on the pitch, there's always a chance to change a game,'' said Terzic, going on to add: ''It does the team good when Jadon plays like that.''

Thomas Delaney, who has also had injury struggles recently, has made his return to team training as planned and is set to take the place of Mats Hummels in the matchday squad. The central defender picked up his fifth yellow card of the season against Union and will have to sit out the Wolfsburg game through suspension. ''We would have liked to have Mats available for such a big match. He's having a great season and is one of the leading players in his position in a lot of statistics,'' said Terzic, adding: ''But we've won games without Mats in the past and we're confident that we'll win without him tomorrow as well.'' Terzic remained tight-lipped when it came to who would replace the vice-captain. The only specialist central-defender available is Manuel Akanji. However, Emre Can has filled in at the heart of defence on various occasions so far this season. ''If we play with four at the back, then we don't have many options. But we've changed the system a few times this season and played with three central defenders. We're leaving this option open.''

Whoever plays for BVB will have to contend with a strong Wolfsburg side. ''They're a very well-organised, physically strong and tough team. They don't do anything fancy, but they are very disciplined and focus on their strengths,'' said sporting director Michael Zorc. ''They've certainly benefited from not having to play in Europe, but you have to compliment them - they're the surprise of the season.''
