Mats Hummels was the toughest-tackling player on the pitch, winning an outstanding 86% of his challenges. On his 20th Ruhr derby appearance – only five players (Weidenfeller, Fichtel, Zorc, Reuter and Thon) have racked up more – he notched his 10th victory. Nobody has more wins!

His 10th triumph in a Ruhr derby saw him move level with the previous record holder, Michael Zorc. "A derby is always something special. But now, after the corona break, it was even more special. The last derby with fans was three years ago, everyone was looking forward to this. The atmosphere here at the stadium and around it was great. Many players in our team were wide-eyed – including myself," he said after the match.

Strikingly, he was on the bench for the 3-0 loss in Leipzig and no longer on the pitch at the end of the 3-2 home defeat to Bremen when Werder scored three goals at the death. BVB have only conceded one goal (in Freiburg) during the 512 minutes Mats Hummels has been on the pitch, whereas six goals have been let in in the 118 minutes without him. (br)
