Having beaten 1860 Munich and Hannover 96, Borussia Dortmund will now face VfL Bochum in the DFB-Pokal round of 16. Kick-off in the away tie against the Ruhr neighbours is at 20:45 CET on Wednesday (8/2).

"It's a cup game, it's a knockout game," said BVB coach Edin Terzic prior to kick-off. "There'll be no second chances in this game, only a battle for victory over 90 or 120 minutes. We want to embrace that." Passion, aggression, tough tackling – those words were all heard at the press conference prior to the cup tie. "We need to embrace the intensity from the beginning and hold our own so that we can then use our strengths to turn the match in our favour," said Terzic, who continued: "We've consistently improved across our last matches and we'll have to execute our routines clearly tomorrow too. Then I'm sure that we'll progress through to the next round."

BVB will head into the cup tie on the back of four consecutive Bundesliga victories, with the Black & Yellows having most recently won 5-1 at home to SC Freiburg. Having missed the Freiburg fixture through illness and suspension respectively, Julian Ryerson and Salih Özcan will return to action. But Karim Adeyemi will not make the short journey to Bochum following his dismissal against Hannover 96 in the last round. He was subsequently banned for two cup matches.

The coach believes Bochum to be "strong and dominant" on home turf, where they have now won five games on the bounce – including victories against Frankfurt, Union Berlin and Gladbach. "You can sense what is possible in this stadium and how long the city has been yearning for top-flight football. They live the whole thing. They don't need much to get the crowd on their side. The fans celebrate every challenge." Terzic has frequently experienced that before: the BVB coach studied in Bochum and has taken in many games at the Ruhrstadion in the past. "It's not easy for an away team there. But if we want to win the cup, we need to overcome tough tasks like the one tomorrow," the coach said, adding: "We're sure that with the confidence from our recent games, we'll have a great chance to go through to the next round."
