"One of the most attractive opponents in the Champions League await us." That is how Edin Terzic described the situation ahead of Tuesday's opening match against Paris Saint-Germain. The final training session at the Parc des Princes has been underway since 18:00 CET.

"We don't only want to make up the numbers – we want to compete with the best," Terzic continued. "It's about putting in a really good performance. That is what we will do tomorrow. We are confident enough to say that we are taking on this task against one of the favourites to win the Champions League. We have proved that we can cause problems to teams competing for the trophy."

And that conviction is backed up by past performances, as Borussia Dortmund have repeatedly stood firm against the favourites. Last season, it took a late winner for the eventual winners of the competition, Manchester City, to see off BVB. "This is part of our journey," said Terzic, "but tomorrow, a new chapter in our history will be written. It's a completely different task."

With the exception of long-term injury absentees Thomas Meunier and Mateu Morey, and Julien Duranville, who "still needs team training," all of the first team are available, including Giovanni Reyna for the first time this season. Niclas Füllkrug "handled it well" in his 35-minutes of game time in Freiburg, said Terzic: "We'll see if it's enough for more tomorrow."

On Friday evening, before the league match in Freiburg, the team and coaches watched PSG's home match against OSG Nice on TV. France's champions suffered their first defeat of the season, losing 3-2, despite Kylian Mbappé scoring twice. After five matches, they are on eight points – the same total as BVB, who, however, have played one game less. "They are beatable," said Nico Schlotterbeck. "We want to play well from the first whistle. They have very fast players up front. We want to defend against them. If we can do that, we can survive and even win in Paris."

"There were a few things that we looked at closely," said Terzic. But he won't be changing his own tactics fundamentally to copy the Nice approach. "We are Borussia Dortmund – we have our own way of playing, our own ideas. It is important to win the first group game. That is why we will try everything to leave the pitch as the winners."
