BVB versus Wolfsburg: Entertainment, goals, wins
BVB have always enjoyed facing VfL Wolfsburg. And the fans can probably look forward to many goals. There have been over three goals per match on average in meetings between the two teams. We have compiled the most important facts on the home game on Saturday (kick-off at 15:30 CET) in the usual compact format below.
The scenario: Seventh versus sixth. One point separates the teams. BVB have started the season with two victories and two draws, VfL have kicked off the campaign with three wins and a defeat. Borussia Dortmund have won nine of their last 10 meetings.
Home/away: The most successful home team from last season is up against the fifth-strongest away team from the 2022/23 campaign. Including last season, VfL have lost three of their last four games on the road.
Head-to-head record: Borussia have suffered only one defeat against Wolfsburg since the 2015 cup final, winning 14 games and drawing one. In their Bundesliga history, the Lower Saxony outfit have only lost more matches (41) and conceded more goals (132) against Bayern Munich than they have against Borussia Dortmund (32, 114). The Black & Yellows have also lost only one of their last 15 Bundesliga home games against the Wolves (10 wins, four draws). The only defeat in this period was by a 3-2 scoreline in December 2012. The goal difference of +58 is only slightly better against Frankfurt and Freiburg (both +61).
Statistics: Including last season, Borussia Dortmund are unbeaten in 12 Bundesliga matches and have scored at least one goal in each of their last 24 games. The last time they lost after going 1-0 up was in Cologne in October 2022. Wolfsburg have kept only one clean sheet in their last eight matches (in a 2-0 victory against Heidenheim on 19 August).
Biggest home win: The Black & Yellows have recently improved upon this record two games in a row. A 6-1 triumph in April 2022 was followed by a 6-0 victory in May 2023. Karim Adeyemi bagged his first Bundesliga brace and assisted another goal. Julian Brandt assisted three goals and notched up three scorer points in one match for the first time in a BVB jersey. In addition to Adeyemi, Jude Bellingham scored twice and there were goals from Sébastien Haller and Donyell Malen.
