Borussia Dortmund were the better team in the first half during the 1-3 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur – all the ZDF pundits were in agreement on that. "The goals we conceded were soft", admonished manager Peter Bosz nonetheless. Christian Pulisic was already looking to the future: "We have got to beat them at home."

Peter Bosz: "I am disappointed because we should have got more out of the game. Above all, we played well in the first half, but were sloppy on two occasions. Both teams typically play according to the same philosophy, that is, they want to press high up the pitch and play out from the back. We did that very well. We applied pressure far up the pitch, but then the defence needs to be well organised, which wasn't the case when the first goal was scored. The goals we conceded were much too soft."

Christian Pulisic: "Tottenham are a very good team. But we had chances, and we really should have got another goal and taken the lead in the first half. Unfortunately, it didn't work out that way. We scored a goal which was ruled out due to an offside decision, and then our opponent scored – and then the game suddenly had a completely different feel to it. That is what happened today. Of course we wanted to win against Tottenham. Now the home match is even more significant. We have to beat them at home."

Ömer Toprak: "We played a good game in the first half and kept Tottenham under control. In the second half, Tottenham were playing at our level, or even better. The referee influenced the game to some extent. Harry Kane had pulled Nuri Sahin to the floor before he scored, while Christian Pulisic's and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's goals didn't stand. That shouldn't serve as an excuse. We played against a top team. It was inevitable that they were going to have chances of their own. However, I don't think we deserved to lose 1-3."

Mauricio Pochettino (Tottenham Hotspur Manager): "Dortmund dominated in the first half, but we were better in front of goal. In the second half, we played at our true level, combined well, and were very pleased with the game we played."

Heung-Min Son (Tottenham Hotspur): "It was a difficult game. Dortmund hogged possession. Today we showed what we are capable of. We have not been so successful at Wembley, but things went well today. Our win was deserved."
