Goalkeeper Roman Bürki has prematurely signed a contract extension with Borussia Dortmund until 30 June 2021. The 26-year-old has been with the eight-time Bundesliga champions since the summer of 2015.

"Roman is the perfect fit for Borussia Dortmund on both a sporting and personal level," said Sporting Director Michael Zorc, who added: "We like his style of play, see great potential for development in him and assume he will soon show that on a regular basis."

Bürki, who made the move to the Strobelallee in 2015, previously made 34 Bundesliga appearances between the sticks for SC Freiburg and is a regular fixture in the Switzerland squad, having made seven senior international appearances. He has played for Borussia Dortmund 68 times in the Bundesliga and 14 times in European competition, and won the DFB Cup with the club this summer.

"I'm very pleased with the trust Borussia Dortmund have placed in me, especially during such a tough time. I'm thrilled and proud to be the goalkeeper of such a great team, to which I give my all," said the Swiss international.
