It's a case of onwards and upwards for Borussia Dortmund. The Black & Yellows completed a two-hour training session at the Hohenbuschei training ground on Wednesday afternoon, where they were joined by Raphael Guerreiro and Christian Pulisic.

The 5-0 defeat by Bayern Munich has been processed and attentions have already turned to getting three points at home to 1. FSV Mainz 05 on Saturday (kick-off 18:30 CET), where a win in front of their own fans would take the Black & Yellows temporarily back to the summit.

Preparations for that Bundesliga clash with the 05ers are already in full swing. The warm-up and a drill in a circle was followed by tackling, passing and shooting practice as head coach Lucien Favre and his charges focused on their ball work in close quarters. The training session was rounded off with a match.

Running training for Guerreiro, Pulisic working with the ball

The personnel situation gives cause for optimism. Raphael Guerreiro completed a running session and stretching exercises, while Christian Pulisic has started working with a ball at his feet. Also among the returnees was Paco Alcácer, who marked his return from an arm injury with an individual session yesterday before completing full team training today. Abdou Diallo it fit again too.

"The most important thing is to win the next game," declared central defender Manuel Akanji after the open session on Tuesday. The head-to-head record certainly looks promising: BVB have won 14 of their 25 Bundesliga meetings with Mainz. (peck)
