BVB head coach Lucien Favre, 61, has prematurely extended his contract with Borussia Dortmund until 30 June 2021.

"I'm really looking forward to continuing this constructive and successful working relationship with the whole BVB team," said Lucien Favre. The Swiss tactician took over the reins last summer with BVB in the middle of a revamp and ended his debut campaign in the Bundesliga with an impressive tally of 76 points, as the Black & Yellows took the title race to the final day. In the UEFA Champions League, meanwhile, Favre helped Borussia Dortmund beat Atlético Madrid, AS Monaco and Club Bruges to top spot in Group A. They were ultimately knocked out by eventual runners-up Tottenham.

"Expectations 100 percent fulfilled"

"Lucien has created clear structures and developed our players further," praised Borussia Dortmund's sporting director Michael Zorc. "He's 100 percent fulfilled expectations," declared chief executive officer Hans-Joachim Watzke. "It's logical that we'd want to shape the future together."
