Tobias Raschl scored the first BVB goal of the season, Maximilian Philipp notched a four-minute hat-trick and there were five goals in the second half, as Borussia Dortmund got their preparations for the 2019/20 season off to a winning start with a 10-0 (5-0) victory away to FC Schweinberg.

The internationals in the squad – Reus, Schulz, Brandt, Sancho, Hazard, Guerreiro, Delaney, Witsel, Dahoud, Hakimi and Gomez – did not make the trip to North Baden with their team-mates, having only undergone their performance test on Wednesday. They were joined on the absentee list by Bürki, Alcácer, Akanji and Schmelzer, who were sidelined with niggles.

Borussia Dortmund boss Lucien Favre opted for a 3-4-3 formation against their eighth-tier opponents, who trailed by only one goal until shortly before the break on what was a very narrow, very short and – despite the best efforts of the groundsmen – very bumpy pitch in places. But the Bundesliga runners-up followed up Raschl's tap-in from close range in the 12th minute with a four-goal salvo in the last five minutes of the half, as Philipp claimed a hat-trick and Wolf added another. There could have been more goals too, but keeper Uehlein denied Wolf and Raschl in the 11th and 17th minutes respectively, while one of his team-mates made a goal-line clearance from Hummels 60 seconds later.

Zagadou struck the woodwork five minutes after the restart, but the sixth goal eventually came on the 58-minute mark when Morey slotted home Toprak's pass. Raschl got his second 10 minutes later, before goals from Philipp (77), U23 player Aydinel (83) and Kagawa (87) made it double figures.

It was to be the final action of BVB's first pre-season friendly but it was just the start of what will surely be a long night for the 700 residents of Schweinberg, who were experiencing their biggest-ever football match and showed themselves to be wonderful hosts.
