Borussia Dortmund have followed up their 6-0 thrashing of FC Zürich earlier today with another largely dominant display to beat FC. St. Gallen 4-1 (3-1) and claim their second friendly win of the day.

The Black & Yellows' feat of scoring at least three goals in each of their summer friendlies continued (total goal difference: 30-5) as they gear up for their Super Cup meeting with Bayern Munich at a sold-out Signal Iduna Park on Saturday.

Only 123 seconds had been played when the opposition goalkeeper – the son of the legendary former striker and ex-Germany coach Jürgen Klinsmann, Jonathan – was beaten for the first time. Götze received the ball from Reus on the corner of the opposition penalty area and fed Schulz, who cut the ball back from the byline into the centre. Bruun Larsen let it run through to the better-positioned Hakimi – tonight occupying an attacking midfield role in Dortmund's 4-2-3-1 formation – and he was left with a simple tap-in. Having played a one-two with Götze, the Moroccan received the ball in the St. Gallen penalty area barely a minute later and unselfishly picked out Bruun Larsen, but his shot went behind for a corner (3).

Despite their intensive training programme, Dortmund were the much more dominant side – even if they struggled to maintain their maximum tempo at times. Reus had a shot from around 12 metres after being played in by Hakimi, but Klinsmann made a strong save (18). Shortly afterwards, Bruun Larsen narrowly missed after being set up by Morey (21).

St. Gallen, who last year finished the Swiss Super League in sixth and occupy fifth after two rounds of the new season, first threatened in the 23th minute. But to the chagrin of the home support at a packed Kybunpark, Hitz denied Guillemenot in a one-on-one.

BVB doubled their advantage on the half-hour mark through Bruun Larsen. Witsel initiated the move by floating a long ball towards the box from the halfway line and the young Dane steered a glancing header through Klinsmann's legs and into the net (31).

A third goal followed on the stroke of half-time when Schulz played a one-two with Götze before firing the ball across to Bruun Larsen, who converted with his right foot. But St. Gallen pulled a goal back before the half-time whistle sounded: Hitz managed to parry a deflected Constanzo free-kick onto the upright but Vilotic beat the Dortmund defenders to the loose ball and tapped home to make it 3-1 in first-half stoppage time.

It was the Swiss side who created the first chance after the break too, although Hitz thwarted Campos' powerful right-footed effort (48). The hosts began to look livelier as the Black & Yellows started to tire, although they still created further moments of danger: Bruun Larsen was denied by Klinsmann from an unseen offside position in the 57th minute; then Witsel's pass was spectacularly flicked into the path of Reus by Götze. The captain kept his cool in front of goal and re-established the three-goal cushion on 64 minutes. At the other end, Hitz twice made good saves to keep out Constanzo (74).

BVB: Hitz – Morey, Toprak (Zagadou, 76), Hummels, Schulz – Witsel, Weigl – Hakimi, Reus, Bruun Larsen (Pherai, 72) – Götze (Reyna, 72)
Goals: 0-1 Hakimi (3), 0-2 Bruun Larsen (31), 0-3 Bruun Larsen (44), 1-3 Vilotic (45+1), 1-4 Reus (64)
Attendance: 13,207
